During our morning worship service several members of our church performed “The Glory Train”. It was a sheer delight as our beautifully adorned members embodied their characters and put their all into bringing forth their message. Our youth read poems and sang and we strolled down memory lane with a video that reminded us of how far we have come with God’s help. We had a wonderful time and today’s service was a reminder that church Christians can have fun too.

Special thanks to all those who came out and supported our 2010 Praise Party Vacation Bible School. We were truly blessed as we engaged in worshipping God using our Head, Hands, Heart, Feet and Soul. We sang, danced, created crafts, shared community meals and learned the Bible Lessons of how worshipping God has many forms and is open to all to take part.

Using an intergenerational apporach we engaged all participants, from our youngest Joy Jumper, 2 years old to our oldest Wise One, 85 years old, in several forms of worship, using our hands to make instruments, our voices to sing songs and our bodies to worship through movement. Our actors and actress helped teach us the history and importance of music in worship and informed us of several musical performers who influenced worship as we know it today, Charles Wesley, Mahalia Jackson, Charles Tindley and Thomas Dorsey.

We had a wonderful teaching staff this year who brought a fresh new approach to Christian Education in the life of our church and afforded all of their students a solid foundation on which to build, and we intend to do just that. With a record attendance: Monday 48, Tuesday 66, Wednesday 74, Thursday 70 and Friday 78 we intend to continue to provide engaing, spirit-filled, community and persoanl spiritual growth ministries.

So now that we’ve got this party started, let’s keep it going, join us for Sunday School, every Sunday at 9:00am and Wednesday Evening, Prayer Circle and Bible Study beginning at 6:00pm. Together we can continue to make a difference not just in our church but in our community. Take a moment to view the pictures from the 2010 Prasie Party VBS below.

Buckhead United Methodist Church Honor Four Great Women of Service
On March 21, 2010, Buckhead United Methodist Church hosted (BUMC) Women in the Pulpit Sunday and honored four of their very own “Designing Women” of service. Although BUMC is a small church in a small town, their members know how to love and honor great service in a big way. The service began with the four honorees, Vivian McFadden, Idonia Cochran, Pernice Jones, and Mona Hodges, being escorted into the sanctuary. They were really surprised when Reverend Delbert Brown, minister of BUMC, presented the women of service with awards that ranged from twenty years to almost forty years of service. The women were adorned with beautiful corsages that suited each woman perfectly. The honorees then took their seats and then it was time for the main event. Since it was women in the Pulpit Sunday, BUMC selected a perfect candidate to deliver the message that would call people to take action. Thelma Hudson, who is a lay speaker for the church, delivered the message “A Call to Service: Perfection Not Required”. The message match perfectly with event of honoring their women of service. After the glorious and moving message was delivered to the congregation, BUMC also held a luncheon in honor of the honorees and their service to the church. The luncheon was provided by the United Methodist Women of Buckhead United Methodist Church, who are just more examples of great work being done by women at the church. With the world class service that the honorees have displayed over the years, the celebration was well deserved. Great things and great people can come from small areas.
